Community Guidelines
Lightwork is a place to ask for help plainly and to give it freely. These guidelines describe the kind of help this network is built for, so you know what to expect before you post — whether you are asking or offering.
What Lightwork is for
Neighbors helping neighbors with real, hands-on things — a ride, a repair, a meal, a few hours of work, a hand with something heavy.
- A ride to work, to an appointment, to the store
- Yard work, moving help, a repair around the house
- A meal, or groceries picked up and dropped off
- An afternoon of hands on a project — a work day, a clean-up, a build
- Sitting with someone, checking in, keeping someone company
What we don’t host
Requests for money, gift cards, or payment transfers. Lightwork is for help you can hand to someone. If money would solve something specific, ask for that thing instead — “I need a ride to work Tuesday” will get further here than “I need gas money.”
That is not a judgment about anyone who asks. It is what this network is: help that arrives as a ride, a meal, or an afternoon of work is help a neighbor can actually give, and help you can count on once it shows up.
Buying something for a neighbor is welcome — bringing over diapers, picking up groceries, filling a tank on the way. The difference is that the person helping chooses how to help and hands it over themselves.
Asking well
- Say what you need in plain words. You do not have to explain or justify it.
- Say when you need it, if timing matters. If it does not, say that too.
- You can ask anonymously — your name stays hidden until you choose to share it.
- Ask for the thing itself, rather than for money toward the thing.
Helping well
- Only sign up for what you can actually do. Someone is counting on it.
- If plans change, say so early — an ask you release can still find someone else.
- Respect what people share with you. An address or a phone number is for the help, and nothing else.
- Never send or request money through Lightwork, in an ask or in a message.
When something is wrong
Report anything that looks off — a request for money, a push to move the conversation somewhere else, or anyone who makes you uncomfortable. Reporting is private and takes a moment. Posts that fall outside these guidelines are removed.
